President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) has been strongly urged to do more to change Indonesia’s poor corruption rating, especially in Bali, because it tarnishes the nation’s image in the eyes of the world.
Indonesia’s bad corruption rating must be repaired, starting with Bali. This island is the tip of the Indonesian spear. To that end, SBY can work out how to tackle corruption in Indonesia, said Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Bali is not spared from cases like marked-up projects, leakages from social assistance funds and other similar wrongdoings. By tackling corruption in Bali, the government could achieve an improvement in Indonesia’s image because the island has such a high profile internationally. The Bali High Court dealt with 21 corruption cases in the period of January to June 2013, of which 15 have proceeded to the investigation stage. This is significantly more than last year’s totals for the same period (14 cases, 12 investigations).
