On the morning of Aug. 1, the Bali Police began deploying more than 8,000 personnel for Idul Fitri. That number equals two-thirds of the total number of police officers in Bali. A large number of Muslim police officers will not have the opportunity to celebrate Lebaran with their relatives in their hometowns. Police have set up 19 security posts along the 128-kilometers Denpasar-Gilimanuk route with 8,000 personnel ready to safeguard holiday travelers. Every police precinct office will be in charge of three security posts. The main route for Idul Fitri exodus will be the police’s main priority. Four days before Idul Fitri, which will fall on Aug. 8 and Aug. 9, no large trucks with six wheels will be allowed access to the main route.
Meanwhile, around 133 Water Police personnel will also be on guard. The Water Police personnel will safeguard several vulnerable points, including in Benoa near Denpasar, Gilimanuk in Jembrana, west Bali; Padangbai in Karangasem, east Bali; and Celukan Bawang in Buleleng, north Bali.
In the land transportation sector, the Bali Transportation Agency have assured that travelers will have a safe journey home. The agency have collaborated with the Bali chapter of the National Narcotics Agency (BNN) to organize drug and urine tests on all bus drivers. The test results will prove whether drivers are using drugs or other dangerous substances.
For the holidays, the management of the Ubung Bus Terminal in Denpasar has prepared 150 buses. According to the bus companies, all tickets for the holidays were already sold out. Around 100 out of the 162 additional buses would be large tourist buses and the rest would be smaller buses.
