The Westin Resort Nusa Dua host the contestants of Miss World 2013 during their week-long visit to the island in September.
The opening ceremony will be held at Mangupura Hall in the adjacent Bali International Convention Centre. It will be televised live via RCTI to viewers in 160 nations around the world on Sunday, September 8 2013. Miss World contestants will also be staging photo shoots at Nirvana Pan Pacific during their stay and the final pageant will be held in Suntul Bogor, Jakarta. Now in its 63rd year, Miss World 2013 is taking place in Indonesia for the very first time and is set to showcase the archipelago to the world.
Meanwhile, not to be outdone by such a long-established event, plans are afoot to stage a Miss Internet contest – the first ever of its kind – in Bali. Chairman of the Electoral Committee of Miss Internet said that the organization of the competition was initiated by the Bali chapter of the Internet Service Providers Association. The idea behind the event is to spread awareness of the Internet as healthy, safe and productive to society. It seems that nowhere else in the world has held a Miss Internet competition.
Internet users in Indonesia amount to 53.73 percent of the population, most of whom are women – about 63 million of them. This event is the first in Indonesia to support the role of women in the use of information technology.
The entry requirements for would-be participants: They should be women aged 17 to 25, have a Bali ID card and be active Internet users with a social networking account like Facebook or Twitter, and be an active blogger. Entry will be open from June 3 to August 23, with the final 20 contestants taking part in the grand final on September 14. The winner of Miss Internet 2013 will become an Internet ambassador for Bali to Indonesia and the world. She will also receive Rp. 25 million in cash, an official car and other benefits.
