Bali’s early warning system for tsunamis has been enhanced with the installation of another tsunami warning tower and siren on Kedungu Beach at the Village of Belalang in Tabanan. The commissioning of the newest addition to Bali’s Tsunami Early Warning System (TWS) was attended by the head of the National Center for Earthquakes and Tsunamis from the Meteorology, Climate and Geophysics Agency (BMKG).
Speaking at the ceremony he said: “This siren will be used to spread an early warning of a tsunami in order that the public can evacuate to a designated safe location and thereby reduce the potential number of casualties.” Bali now has 9 locations with Tsunami Early Warning Siren towers standing 15-meters high: Serangan Island in Denpasar Kedungu, Tabanan Seririt, Buleleng Sanur Beach, Denpasar Tanjung Benoa Bali Tourism Development Corporation at Nusa Dua, Kedonganan Beach Kuta Beach Double Six Beach, Seminyak.
